Bishop Clyde D. Brown, Jr. a native of Waynesboro, Virginia, was born to Clyde Brown and Lula McQueen Lee. His education began during segregation at Rosenwald School in Waynesboro where he attended 1st through 9th grade, except for one academic year spent in the Detroit, Michigan school system. Bishop Brown is a graduate of Waynesboro High School. His secondary educational experience began at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Virginia, and culminated with a B. S. Degree in Psychology from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He found Trinity University upon being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Bishop Brown served the Waynesboro, Augusta County, and Charlottesville communities as a former member of the Augusta County School System Special Education Advisory Board and served as chaplain at The Piedmont House, which is a first step program for felons re-entering society. He also served as a member of the Employment Educational Committee to The Virginia Penal Re-Entry Initiative, and closely interacted with a segment of the population at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Joint Security Complex through The Good News Prison Ministry. Bishop Brown was employed by the City of Charlottesville school system for 35 years before retiring.
Bishop Brown formerly held the position of Superintendent of the Metropolitan Central District, presently known as the Central District, and served as 1st Administrative Assistant to the late Bishop Henderson Wheeler. He currently serves as the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Greater West Virginia Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Brown is a member of the Church of God in Christ Inc. General Assembly Resolution Committee and is the founder and Pastor of Christ Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, located in Waynesboro, Virginia, where he has served since July 1968.
Bishop Clyde D. Brown, Jr. met and married Aleta Williams in 1972, after a five-month courtship. They are the proud parents of 3 sons: John Damian and his wife Shawna, of New Orleans, LA; Clyde Daniel Brown, III of Charlottesville, Virginia; Michael Devin Brown of New York, NY; and one daughter Tabitha Adrian Brown-Drago and her husband James of Portage, Indiana. They are equally the proud grandparents of Jordan Damian Brown, Jasper Zaine Brown, Kallen Asher Drago, Maddox Aspen Drago and Zahhra Aslyn Drago.
